Key Responsibilities
- Analyze risk and pricing factors including group demographics, claim experience, contribution levels, plan design, and contract terms.
- Support underwriting decisions to ensure proposed stop loss coverage aligns with guidelines and is financially sound.
- Partner with internal teams, brokers, and clients to gather information, communicate decisions, and provide expert guidance.
- Assist in delivering competitive, profitable solutions for a diverse portfolio of stop loss business.
- Participate in continuous process improvements to enhance underwriting accuracy and efficiency.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 0–8 years of underwriting experience in group insurance or voluntary benefits.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and clear written/verbal communication.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently, depending on level.
- Familiarity with group health insurance products and risk assessment techniques (preferred but not required for entry-level).
Levels & Experience
- Associate Group Underwriter: Entry-level, under supervision, approval up to 1,000 lives, 0–2 years of experience.
- Senior Group Underwriter: Handles complex applications independently, approval up to 5,000 lives, 3–4 years of experience.
- Lead Group Underwriter: Manages the most complex cases, approval up to 10,000 lives, 5–8 years of experience, preferred health background.
